When I first started doing hair I had a child screaming in my chair, I asked my educator what I could do to help and her response was "just don't ever do kids hair". From that point on I made it a goal of mine to learn ways to make haircuts better for children. There is a common misconception that people with autism aren't empathetic, while that may be true for some it isn't true for everyone. I am autistic, and I have so much empathy and understanding for your child! And as a parent I understand how you might be feeling watching your child face the challenge of a haircut.
I wrote a list of helpful tips for haircuts, if you haven't already please check that out. Did you know there isn't any education for hairstylists teaching kids hair or sensory needs? That is why when you go to the average salon hairstylists will start a haircut and send you away the minute your child starts screaming. That is not how we operate at Mint Hair Salon. While the tricks we've learned over the years may not always work, we will still do our absolute best to get the haircut done. And our hope is with consistency haircuts will become easier for your child each time.
